Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) is a non-destructive testing method used to detect surface and near-surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials. The process involves magnetizing the material and then applying ferrous particles, either dry or suspended in a liquid, to the surface. These particles are attracted to areas of magnetic flux leakage caused by defects such as cracks or inclusions, forming visible indications that can be inspected under suitable lighting conditions. MPI is widely used in industries like aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing for its ability to quickly and effectively identify flaws that could compromise the integrity of critical components.
